A Dialogue with SASI’s Bright Minds: Nurturing Future Leaders

Introduction:

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to stand before the vibrant community of young minds at SASI group of institutions Visakhapatnam. It was a gathering brimming with potential, where the air buzzed with aspirations and dreams. The congregation of the achievers who joined the premier institutions like AIIMS, AMC, IIT, NIT etc with the aspirants who are preparing for the professional courses made the atmosphere more vibrant. As a mentor, my aim was simple – to share insights and ignite the spark of motivation that would propel these budding professionals toward their goals.

Cherish Friendship :

Addressing nearly a thousand students, I found myself reminiscing about my own school days, much like the disciplined atmosphere I encountered at SASI. The sight of the eager faces transported me back to my time in Sainik School Bhubaneswar when friendships were pure, unburdened by the complexities of adulthood. These connections formed during school days are the foundations of a lifelong support system. They stand by us during our achievement and also mistakes. The friendship should be respected and the time spent with them to be cherished life long.

Mistakes are stepping stones:

Mistakes as stepping stones on the path to wisdom, they are the invaluable lessons that carve the way to our true potential. I emphasized their inevitability in our journey, especially when navigating the challenging terrains of studies and training. With SASI students immersed in preparatory classes for medical and engineering entrance exams, the significance of learning from mistakes couldn’t be stressed enough. Mistakes are not failures; they are stepping-stones to growth and embracing it with resilience is key to success.

One of the crucial takeaways I shared was the importance of embracing advice and acknowledging mistakes, drawing on my personal experience during premedical preparation.

A piece of advice from my father to revisit and learn from the questions I got wrong in a simulated exam before the entrance examination proved to be a game changer, ultimately shaping my success in the final examination. I urged the students to reflect on their mistakes, learn from them and ensure they don’t repeat them in the future.

Cracking the Code: The Algebra Adventure

Childhood memories often echo with the struggle to balance studies and playtime. The constant emphasis from elders and teachers on hitting the books seemed like a hindrance to our desires for play and TV. Yet, as time unfolds, the realization dawns that a foundation in good academics becomes an invaluable compass for a prosperous life. It’s not merely a path to secure a job but a key that unlocks doors in various realms, providing an edge even in alternative careers like sports. The seemingly challenging task of childhood studies reveals itself as a fundamental investment in shaping a future of possibilities and opportunities.

During our childhood we get stuck in the web of Algebra. Back then I used to think what is the use of this in future. As time pass by I’ve cracked the code. algebra isn’t just about x’s and y’s. It’s a mind workout, a mental gym for building problem-solving muscles.

Think of algebra as your secret weapon to turn complicated problems into manageable pieces. It’s like having a superpower that helps you break down big challenges step by step. Sure, you might not use the quadratic formula in your everyday job, but the process of solving those algebraic puzzles secretly trains your brain for the real world.

Idolise an achiever but be your own hero:

In the symphony of success, the essence lies in not just idolising achievers but in becoming our own hero. This was the heart of my talk, where I drew parallels between the journeys of sporting icons like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Kohli, despite idolising Tendulkar, charted his unique path to success. I urged students to resonate with this idea, encouraging them to discover their rhythm, embrace their strengths, and invest effort in their distinctive way. The resonance of hard work, I emphasised, holds the dual power of unlocking personal success and inspiring others on a journey that transcends the ordinary.

After all, in the grand tapestry of professional life, being your own hero is not just a choice; it’s a narrative waiting to be written.

Life is like a marathon:

As a marathoner sharing insights with eager students, I found parallels between the race of life and the enduring challenge of a marathon. Life, much like a marathon, is a journey where every mile holds significance. We often witness achievers crossing the finish line, but that’s merely the tip of the iceberg.

What truly demands admiration is the unseen sweat and hustle invested in preparation. Drawing a parallel, I emphasised that, just like a marathon, life requires training, planning and the right fuel. A well-thought-out strategy paves the way for success, even when navigating different terrains. The meticulous preparations for entrance examinations mirror this principle; they not only ensure success in upcoming exams but also cultivate the resilience needed to face future life challenges. In both the marathon and life’s journey, every step forward is a testament to our endurance and determination, making every mile count in the pursuit of our goals.

Gita,The power of Questions:

Finally, one of the speakers delved into the power of questions, inspired by the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. Life, much like the Gita, is a series of questions and answers. Every question posed becomes a key to unlocking valuable insights, guiding these young aspirants on their unique paths to success. We urged them to ask questions, seek guidance from mentors, and embrace the learning journey.

Conclusion:

My time with the bright minds of SASI was a humbling experience. The potential within those walls is immense, and I left with the hope that my words served as a beacon of encouragement, motivating these aspiring professionals to reach greater heights.

Dr Suman, kudos to you on taking out time from busy schedule to motivate the younger generation. The student community at Sasi is really blessed to listen to a multi talented and successful person like you.
And you have mastered the art of life guidance. The way You gradually won their trust by saying to err is humane, then steered them on to the path of achieving one’s own goal and be the hero- is highly commendable. You were like a farmer who prepares the soil carefully and sows the select seeds.

A life well lived is one that passes on the virtues of good/successful living.
There can be no better mentor than one who shares one’s own experience on failures and how he/she could overcome them. The takeaways from a failure provide more insights than that of successes.
I loved your fondness to inspire the young minds and share your best practices. I’m sure with gentlemen like you around, these young minds will go miles.
