Teachers Day: Honouring those Who Shaped our Lives…

 Introduction

Teachers play a vital role in our lives. They guide us not just through textbooks but towards becoming better human beings. As we celebrate “Teachers Day” on September 5th, let’s pay tribute to those who’ve left an indelible mark on our journey of learning and growth. Wishing a Happy Teachers Day.

Parents and Family: Our First Teachers

“Education begins at home,” they say, and it’s true. Our parents and family are our very first teachers. They teach us not just the basics but also values and culture that shape our personalities. They instill in us respect for elders and the art of interacting with peers.

Preschool and Early School Teachers: The Foundation Setters

The teachers who introduced us to the world of school deserve special mention. They helped us transition from home to school, making this change less daunting. They made learning fun with rhymes and toys, setting the stage for our academic journey. Their impact on our lives is immeasurable.

Shyam Guruji: A Dedicated Mentor

In my fifth grade, my father sent me to a group tuition class with a remarkable teacher named Shyam Guruji. He was 75 years old and deeply passionate about teaching. Initially, I felt lost in the group class and told my father it wasn’t benefiting. Guruji, recognizing my potential, started coming to my house to teach me. Imagine a 75-year-old walking 3 kilometers, in the afternoon just to teach a young student like me. His dedication helped me clear my entrance examination, and I will forever be grateful.

Atul Sir: The Game Changer

In eighth grade, I struggled with the transition from an Odia medium to an English medium school, particularly in mathematics. My father turned to Shyam Guruji, who, due to age, couldn’t teach anymore. However, he entrusted his son, Atul Sir, to help me during my Durga Puja vacation. Atul Sir’s guidance transformed my understanding of math, and I excelled in my exams from that point onwards. Once I scored good marks, I never turned back.

Teachers in Sainik School: Shaping Character

At the tender age of 10, I joined Sainik School, where teachers became our second parents. They taught us discipline, humility, and values, preparing us for life’s challenges. More than educators, they were mentors, imparting values like “Seva” (service), “Kartavya” (duty), and “Gyan Virta” (knowledge and valor).

Teachers in Medical College: The Foundation of Healing

Entering medical college was a milestone. Our pre-med teachers prepared us for the grueling entrance exams. Inside medical school, teachers guided us from understanding the human body’s complexities to diagnosing and treating diseases. They were not just educators but also mentors who transformed us from medicos into doctors.

AH Post graduate Institute of Cancer : Specialisation Begins

Specializing in Radiation Oncology marked a new chapter. Senior postgraduates and faculty members were our first teachers in oncology, setting the stage for our future. The saying goes “you do what you were taught.” Every day in our clinic while seeing a new patient, we instill the same principles that were taught in those days.http://www.ahrcc.in/

Teachers During Training: Advancing Medical Knowledge

Post-MD, our teachers at Apollo Cancer Center Hyderabad and Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai elevated our understanding of cancer treatment. They showed us the joy of curing cancer and the principles of comprehensive cancer care, emphasising evidence-based medicine.

Professional Colleagues: Learning Together

In our specialized fields, colleagues become essential guides. Collaborating across medical specialties helps us stay updated with advancements in healthcare.

Patients: The Greatest Teachers

Every patient teaches us valuable lessons. We don’t just treat diseases; we care for individuals with illnesses, especially in diseases like cancer. Patients show us diverse aspects of human behavior and resilience.

Teacher at home:A privilage

Sikha, my beloved wife, is not just a teacher by profession; she is a teacher driven by passion for education. Her commitment to her students’ growth and her unwavering enthusiasm to instill knowledge is truly admirable. It’s not just a job for her; it’s a calling, a vocation that she approaches with boundless energy and enthusiasm every single day.

Conclusion

Beyond the classroom, life is filled with individuals who teach us valuable life lessons. Friends in hobbies like photography, cycling and running enrich our lives with unique insights.

On this Teachers Day, let’s cherish and honour all those who’ve illuminated our paths, shaping us into the people we are today. They are the true heroes, silently but profoundly making a difference in our lives.

“Dear Readers, as we embark on this journey, let us take a moment to remember our teachers and pray for their wellbeing”.

Life is evolving continuously. Though the subject matter and curriculum may change, common epithets like honesty, sincerity, punctuality will never change.
