Independence Day Vibes: Celebrating the Spirit of Freedom

Introduction:

Happy Independence Day

Every year on the 15th of August, a wave of patriotism sweeps across India as the nation commemorates its hard-fought independence. This is the day when we remember the valor and sacrifices of our freedom fighters who endured immense hardships to liberate our land from the clutches of British colonialism. Led by the indomitable spirit of Mahatma Gandhi, the movement for freedom was based on principles of non-violence and civil disobedience. As we celebrate this day with fervor and zeal, let’s dive into the various dimensions of Independence Day vibes that has shaped our lives and celebrate the spirit of freedom.

Primary School Days:

For many of us, the memories of our primary school days on Independence Day are like snippets from a cherished dream. The excitement of donning our school uniforms and marching together in unison through the streets of our neighbourhoods remains etched in our minds. The sense of discipline that these events instilled in us was unparalleled. Amidst the speeches of the dignitaries, our young hearts eagerly awaited the promised treats that would follow, a reward for sitting through what seemed like an endless speeches. These early celebrations forged our connection with our country’s history and set the foundation for our understanding of patriotism.

Sainik School Days:

In Sainik School Bhubaneswar, with the motto of ” Seva, Kartavya, Gyan, Virta” Independence Day takes on a different tone. Weeks of preparation culminate in meticulously choreographed parades that honour our armed forces and inspire the cadets to strive for excellence. The synchronised marching, the polished shoes that reflect one’s own face, and the camaraderie among the participants create an atmosphere of pride and dedication. It’s more than a parade; it’s a testament to the discipline and honour that the armed forces embody. The grand dinner that follows serves as a rewarding conclusion to the day, fostering a sense of belonging and shared purpose among the students.

Professional course Preparation Time:

Life’s various phases sometimes make us appreciate the value of certain holidays differently. During periods of intense focus, like MBBS preparation, holidays such as Independence Day become valuable opportunities to enhance productivity. However, these periods also highlight the importance of striking a balance between personal goals and collective celebrations.

College Days:

As we transition to college, the way we celebrate Independence Day evolves. The freedom to choose whether to attend the flag hoisting, combined with the absence of a uniform, reflects the newfound autonomy of college life. However, even amidst the relaxed atmosphere, the sense of patriotism remains alive. Attending the flag hoisting ceremony might not be mandatory, but the desire to connect with our nation’s history and values persists.

Post College Days:

Perhaps the most patriotic Independence Day vibes are experienced during our post-college years. Participating in an Independence Day run offers a firsthand experience of the diversity and unity that define India. People of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities come together, running with flags held high where each step resonating with a deep sense of pride. The sight of foreigners running with the Indian flag serves as a reminder that the spirit of freedom transcends borders.

The day’s celebrations encompass everything from formal parades to cultural performances by school children, from flag hoisting in government offices to community events in residential areas. The grandeur and diversity of these celebrations remind us of the richness of our country’s culture and the multifaceted nature of our freedom.

Conclusion:

Independence Day isn’t just a holiday; it’s a celebration of the spirit that binds us as a nation. It’s a day when we remember the sacrifices of those who came before us and reflect on the responsibility we hold towards the future. The Independence Day vibes have evolved through various phases of our lives, shaping our understanding of freedom, unity, and patriotism. As we celebrate this day each year, let’s also renew our commitment to preserving the hard-won independence and contributing to the growth and prosperity of our beloved nation.

Very nicely composed and spoken from the heart Dr Suman. Is should inspire everyone who reads this.
There’s only one disagreement I have with your view on our gaining independence the non violent way. Had it been true we should have got it long ago. Many martyrs had already sacrificed their lives over the two centuries of British rule. Subash Chandra Bose and his INA had given the Brits a taste of what was to come in future. Fact is after WWII, Briton was rendered economically weak and weary, there was rebellion brewing in the Indian Navy which was termed as Mutiny and the British realised that they could no longer hold on to their Jewel in their Crown without loosing the Crown. Non-violence it wasn’t. Country was partitioned, millions lost their home and hearth and Mullins more their lives in ugly violence.
Above is only as a point of discussion. That a side, Congratulations on the inspiring write up.

    Very well articulated Dr Suman.
    Nostalgic memories flooded in.
Present young generation don’t get the childhood experiences that we had. For many, Independence Day is just another holiday. They are not called in to salute the National Flag. They don’t stand in line watching the tricolor unfurl, showeing the flowers hidden in. They don’t experience the glint of moisture in eyes while remembering the sacrifices of countless Bravehearts.

One year I had gone for a holiday, on that day one of my friend who owns a school in Berhampur called me for being a chief guest. When I was giving the speech, I realised what am I doing my children are not participating in this function and I am making them think it’s holiday. That’s when I ensured my children participate in the school celebrations.
