Sainik School Bhubaneswar: Inspiring Mentor Defeats Cancer Twice to Become Dr. Khitish Chandra Hati

Introduction: In the realm of education, there are exceptional individuals who go beyond the traditional role of a teacher. Mr. Khitish Chandra Hati, a teacher and mentor at Sainik School Bhubaneswar, is one such extraordinary figure. Renowned for his unwavering principles, Mr. Hati has played a pivotal role in shaping young minds and transforming boys into men. However, his impact extends far beyond the classroom, as he has triumphed over cancer not once, but twice. This is the remarkable story of a man whose indomitable spirit and dedication have inspired countless individuals.

Building Character Through Discipline: Mr. Hati’s tenure at Sainik School Bhubaneswar was marked by his strict adherence to principles. Initially perceived as a strict and disliked teacher, his disciplined approach and unwavering commitment to excellence laid the foundation for his students’ future success. Looking back, former students now proudly acknowledge that Mr. Hati’s strict principles have shaped them into the individuals they are today.

The Green Scooter Incident: An incident involving Mr. Hati and a green scooter remains etched in the memories of many students. As they marched to school one day, a student who was late to classes decided to take a shortcut through the playground. However, Mr. Hati, true to his commitment to discipline, intercepted the student on his scooter. With a stern expression, he redirected the student to follow the proper route. This incident serves as a testament to Mr. Hati’s unwavering dedication to maintaining discipline and upholding standards.

The Cancer Crusader: Years later, news of Mr. Hati’s illness shook the Sainik School Bhubaneswar community. Diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML M7), a blood cancer with a poor prognosis, Mr. Hati faced a challenging battle. Recognising the limitations of treatment options in Odisha, a group of former students rallied together and decided to take him to Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, renowned for its expertise in cancer treatment.

Facing Adversity with Resilience: The initial prognosis was disheartening, and doctors were skeptical about the benefits of treatment. However, Mr. Hati, a chemistry teacher, saw life as a chemical reaction. With unwavering resolve, he expressed his understanding to the doctor, emphasizing that the treatment offered him a chance at victory. Inspired by his determination, the medical team commenced his treatment, and Mr. Hati embarked on his journey to overcome cancer.

The Power of Unity: News of Mr. Hati’s battle with cancer spread rapidly through social media. Former students, spread across various locations and even abroad, united to provide financial support and arrange necessary arrangements for his treatment. The Old Boys Association of Sainik School Bhubaneswar played a vital role in coordinating efforts and ensuring Mr. Hati received the care and support he needed. The collective prayers and contributions of thousands of individuals illustrated the deep-rooted respect and love they held for their beloved teacher.

A Teacher’s Investment: During Mr. Hati’s critical phase, the outpouring of concern and support from his students worldwide served as a poignant reminder of the profound impact teachers have on their students’ lives. It became evident that a teacher’s investment in instilling principles and values is a long-term commitment that reaps immeasurable dividends. The prayers and support extended to Mr. Hati were a testament to the enduring influence of dedicated educators.

The Relapse and Ultimate Triumph: After successfully completing his initial treatment, Mr. Hati returned to teaching, defying expectations and inspiring his colleagues. However, after two years, changes in his blood report indicated a relapse. Undeterred, Mr. Hati faced the challenge head-on and embarked on a second round of intensive chemotherapy. Despite encountering severe complications, including a life-threatening infection, he displayed unwavering strength and resilience. With the unwavering support of his students and his winning attitude, Mr. Hati defeated cancer for the second time.

Dr. K.C. Hati: A Testament to the Human Spirit: After his recovery, Mr. Hati achieved another milestone in his journey. With his health restored, he fulfilled his dream of earning a Ph.D. in the field of “Physico-chemical Analysis of Human Blood in Forensic Interest.” His remarkable determination and unwavering commitment allowed him to present his research with excellence, earning him the title of Dr. K.C. Hati. His story serves as an inspiration, reminding us that the human spirit can overcome even the most daunting challenges.

Conclusion: The story of Mr. K.C. Hati’s triumph over cancer not once, but twice, showcases the power of resilience, unity, and the profound impact of a dedicated teacher. His unwavering commitment to principles and his indomitable spirit have inspired generations of students. Mr. Hati’s journey from being a strict teacher to a cancer survivor and ultimately Dr. K.C. Hati exemplifies the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of education. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

Indeed I am privileged because I am also his student. And I remember, I went to see him off at the Airport in Bhubaneswar to his flight to Mumbai for treatment. I accompanied him from apollo hospital to airport. I could sense a lion within him.

A.k.rath sir and K.C.hati sir were the legends of our school.
I had a close contact with both of them.
Its really very painful to believe that, now they are not present among us. I missed both the teachers in my last year in the school .At that time I was the school captain of the school and really it hurted me a lot.
I have a book provided by each of them to me. I have kept those books as a memory of those legends.
In sainik school the relationship between teachers and students is one step ahead then just for education. They are our friends, mentor, guide and what not.
I don’t know about NDA, but the life in sainik school bbsr is really extraordinary.
And Dr.SUMAN (sir) you did an excellent job by posting this story. Other than SAIBHUBANS This story will touch the heart of non SAIBHUBANS also.

Now I’m passed out from the school this year itself. I’m missing my school a lot.

PEOPLE JUST SAY THAT SAINIK SCHOOL BBSR IS DIFFERENT ,BUT I HAVE EXPERIENCED IT.
